Third Doctor Adventures Regenerated
Saturday November 30, 2024 10:00am - 10:55am CST
Honoring the presence of Daisy Ashford and Sadie Miller, this discussion will focus on the Third Doctor Adventures. The series has had a regeneration recently with short based around a 6 or 7 episode model. In this panel we'll discuss how we think the change of format has worked. We'll also discuss how we feel about recasting the leading roles and incorporating an older Jo Jones. We'll also talk about individual stories and what we think the best have been. Suggested by Nathan Laws.

40th Anniversary of Bundles From Britain
Saturday November 30, 2024 12:00pm - 12:55pm CST
In mid-1984, an idea was hatched to open a Doctor Who retail store in Chicago that served the fans exclusively, and in November of that year, Bundles from Britain was launched. After adding key partners and having great success at TARDIS 22 in 1985, the business went on and on. Through it can be traced the origins of the creation of Chicago TARDIS. Saturday November 30, 2024 1:00pm - 1:55pm CST
Members of DePaul University's Doctor Who Club will discuss the representation of marginalized identities across Doctor Who, especially from a modern perspective. We represent a diverse range of voices who will speak on race, gender, sexuality, disability, neurodivergence, immigration, and more. As young fans, we are able to view the show through a modern lens and consider it in relation to current issues and trends in representation. We will take a close look at the narrative ways that episodes engage with marginalized identities. We are interested both in celebrating successful examples of representation and unpacking more complicated examples. A presentation of the DePaul University Doctor Who Club.

There's a new Doctor Who spinoff series coming soon - "The War Between the Land and the Sea" - featuring the Sea Devils and UNIT, created by Russell T Davies, who also created past spinoffs The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood. Done right, spinoffs can really transcend their perceived status as the 'second feature' and craft their own lasting legacies, as we certainly feel SJA and TW have done. We will discuss these shows (including K-9 The Series and Class too) and all that is great about them, and talk a bit about the upcoming show as well.
